Want to expand your cooking skills? Try cooking a pineapple upside down cake, salsa chicken or whatever you want when you go camping!!!!! Come learn how to cook in a dutch oven and expand your menu!!!!! Pocahontas State Park and Old Dominion Iron Chefs will be teaching a Dutch Oven Cooking 101 class on April 4th, 11 am to 3 pm est at Shelter 4. The class could go past 3 pm. We will introduce you to cast iron basics, how to clean & maintain, and how to control the heat.  The class will be broken into groups and each group will cook a dish and then we will enjoy all the dishes at the end. The cost is $18.00/person the fee covers all food, materials, recipes, and supplies. No need to bring anything except a drink. Children ages 10 and up are welcome. We will have the class rain or shine. The RV campground is open if you want to camp. To sign up please email odironchefs@yahoo.com. If you have food allergies please let us know in the email. Space is limited so registration must be made prior to the event. Once you send an email for registration you will be directed to the online payment site which needs to be paid before you attend the class. Also a release form will need to be signed at the class. Our fall DOG is Nov 2 at Powhatan State Park at site 4 in the campground. You dont have to camp but the park might charge to get into park if coming for the day. Dinner is at 4:30 pm so Pots on the table at 4:30. You can come and cook at site 4 if coming for the day.

Made this in my backyard and they where awesome!!!!
2-3 pounds of ribs
2-3 onions
4 gloves of garlic (pieces)
1-2 bbq sauce

oil bottom of DO liberally
chop onions, garlic and place in DO and coat onions so they don’t stick.

About 14 coals on top of a 12″ DO and 7 on the bottom. Cook until tender about 2 hours.

Drain fat from DO and pour and cover ribs in sauce and let heat up about 15-20 mins

Made this for our first Old Dominion Iron Chefs DOG in 2012. A very sweet treat!!!

1 pkg. German Chocolate cake
1 can Sweetened condensed milk (14 oz)
1 jar Caramel or butterscotch topping( i use Caramel)
1 container Cool Whip
2 king size your favorite candy bar crushed (i have used Heath and twix)

Bake cake as per directions in a 9×13 or 12 inch DO. Take cake from oven or DO and still warm poke holes all over top with a wooden spoon. Pour can of sweetened condensed milk into holes. Then pour in caramel or butterscotch topping into holes. Cover with cool whip after cake cools then sprinkle with crushed candy bars. VERY RICH but DELICIOUS!!!!!!

Made this for Breakfast a while back. A nice filling breakfast.
12 inch dutch oven and skillet
Ingredients
2 tubes of biscuits (the small ones with 8 per tube)
12 eggs
1 lb sausage
2 packages of country gravy mix (2 cups per package)

Procedure
– Fry the sausage & set aside
– Scramble the eggs & set aside
– Bake the biscuits in the 12″ oven
– Mix up the gravy while the biscuits are baking
– Layer the sausage, scrambled eggs, and gravy over the biscuits
– Heat until piping hot and serve
